ROMBET – about participating at ICE Totally Gaming, tendencies and expectations for 2016


At the beginning of February, ROMBET Association representatives took the pulse of the international gambling industry during ICE Totally Gaming, the biggest annual European event dedicated to this area. In 2016, the exhibition has reached a new visitors record – over 50.000 and a number of 525 exhibitors.

“ICE Totally Gaming is always an intense experience: is extremely difficult to meet all the exhibitors you consider interesting and to participate to all the events you have in the program in only three days of exhibition. From the perspective of Romanian industry, Rombet has insistently promoted the idea of opening Romanian market for the online top operators and we can proudly say that we have been able to determine important companies to put Romania on their priority list for the next investments. We welcome Romanian presence at this event – including also ONJN officials – and we must say that the players from the top of Romanian gambling industry have understood the importance of the “exposure” at this level”, declared Dan Iliovici, prim-vicepresident of Rombet Association.

For the second consecutive year, ROMBET has closed a partnership with ICE organizer, Clarion Events, a partnership which gave to the members of the association a direct access to the flux of the biggest event of European gambling industry.

“A very clear tendency at ICE 2016 has been the development and innovation in online gaming and virtual gambling, both in online platforms and land based area. The Fair has put together all the last generation novelties, like equipments or graphics, and we have the opportunity to discover all these, directly from the very first source. The industry is moving forward. Very soon we will have holographic games, we already have 3D games and we haven’t mentioned the online games which allow putting a helmet on the head and feeling that you are in a casino or on a football field. At the exhibition in London, we have noticed a lot of Romanian operators interested to know all these novelties”, says Dan Ghita, ROMBET President.

But there is also very important to know the expectations for 2016 in terms of legislation, for a market which can reach 1 – 1.2 billion EURO.


“Development and consolidation – these are the most important terms for 2016. In terms of legislation for online gaming, in Romania, the legislative package is to be finalized by adopting the secondary regulations (law enforcement rules) and tertiary regulations, the procedures and instructions of the authorization and control gaming authority – ONJN. In this respect, 2016 will also be the year when we will progress from the provisional right to operate to the licenses and authorizations for online gambling. We can also have the first licenses and temporary gaming authorizations which will give to the owners the right to operate in touristic national resorts and, in this way, will contribute to the reviving of the tourism industry in our country. Also, by adopting the law enforcement rules, we will have for the first time in Romania, limited risk slots, also known as AWP – equipments to be exploited only in commercial areas, where are developed other activities but gambling”, explains Anchidim Zagrean, ROMBET Association vice-president.
